The son of the world's most wanted drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, unintentionally gave officials a clue on his fathers location, after posting a photograph on social media without disabling the location feature.

Alfredo Guzman Salazar, posted a photo on his twitter account of himself and his father with their faces obscured by cartoon emoticons, dining at a restaurant in Costa Rica on Aug. 31.

Salazar, who did not disable the location setting on his account, mistakenly gave authorities a clue about "El Chapo's" location and added “August here, you already know with whom” as a caption underneath the photo.

The tweet which has been favourited and retweeted approximately 1,500 times, drew the attention of the Costa Rican authorities, who are investigating the Twitter post, local media reported.

Guzman is wanted by officials after he fled from Mexico’s Altiplano prison, by digging mile-long tunnel on July 2015. He is also on the US's most wanted listed as he allegedly led the Sinaloa cartel, an international drug trafficking organisation.

Last week the US added an additional $5 million to the $3.8 million reward for his capture and created a “tip line” for people to give up information about the drug boss.
