Pope Francis to visit Mexico in February

According to the Vatican, Pope Francis is due to visit Mexico on Feb. 12 and his trip will last for eight days.

Pope Francis is expected to emphasize mostly on poverty, refugee issues, organised crime both in catholic world and beyond during his visit.

Almost 80% of Mexico’s population is Catholic, so the Pope is expected to receive a warm welcome.

"He will surely address the issues of dignity, human rights and duties and the care we owe to the most vulnerable people in society, such as migrants ," said the Archbishop of Mexico City Norberto Rivera Carrera.

Pope Francis also visited Cuba this year and met former and current leaders of the country, Fidel and Raul Castro, and held masses that were attended by thousands.

Pope Francis had played an important role in mediating the rapprochement between Cuba and the US, which resulted in reestablishment of diplomatic relations, following decades of hostility.

The pope has recently inspired the liberal-leaning US Catholics with his message towards forgiveness and care for underprivileged people. He has also shaken up some conservative members with deep messages over climate change and turned away from the church's opposition on birth control, abortion and same-sex marriage.
