Three arrested for police shooting in Mississippi

Law enforcement officer confirms three people were arrested for shooting two Mississippi police officers during a routine traffic stop

Three people have been arrested after two police officers were shot and killed while conducting a routine traffic control in the southern Mississippi city of Hattiesburg on Saturday evening.

A manhunt was undertaken for Curtis Banks, 26, and his 29-year-old brother, Marvin Banks who were identified as suspects.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that Marvin Banks and 22-year-old Joanie Calloway have been charged with two counts of capital murder, while, Curtis Banks was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of capital murder.

The shooting occurred after a police officer pulled over a 2000 Gold Cadillac Escalade for a routine traffic control and a second officer arrived for backup.

The suspects are believed to have opened fire on the officers during the traffic stop.

Police officers 34-year-old Benjamin Deen and 25-year-old Liquori Tate were pronounced dead at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

One of the police officers died at the scene while the other one died after reaching the hospital.
