Syrian regime leader Bashar al Assad is "deluded if he thinks that there is a military solution to the conflict in Syria," the US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Friday.
"Look, I mean he's deluded if he thinks that there's a military solution to the conflict in Syria. We've seen this wax and wane over now five years but all we're looking at if the Syrian regime continues the fighting is more bloodshed, more hardship and frankly a greater hardening of positions on either side."
In an interview with AFP published on Friday, Assad said that Syrian peace negotiations will not stop the regime forces in fighting.
He said he would keep "fighting terrorism" and would retake the whole country.
