Trump cabinet nominees warn about Russia

The US president-elect has called for friendlier relations with Russia, but his picks for defense secretary and CIA chief are emphasising at congressional confirmation hearings the threat they believe Moscow poses.

Asked about the main threats to US interests, Trump's nominee for secretary of defense, James Mattis, said, "I would consider the principle threats to start with Russia."

US President-elect Donald Trump’s picks for secretary of defense and director of the Central Intelligence Agency – James Mattis and Mike Pompeo – strongly warned about Russia during their congressional hearings on Thursday.

Assuming they're both confirmed, their views appeared to be at odds with those of their soon to be Commander in Chief.
