US President-elect Donald Trump said on Thursday he will nominate bankruptcy attorney David Friedman as ambassador to Israel.

In a statement, Trump said his long-time friend and trusted adviser would strengthen ties between Washington and Tel Aviv.

But Friedman is seen as a pro-Israeli hardliner, and says he plans to take up his post in the disputed city of Jerusalem.
