The UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) has said that two UN police officers were found dead in their residence in Cap-Haitien, Haiti on Wednesday.

However, the mission has not revealed where the two female officers are from or under what circumstances they died.

"The lifeless bodies of two police officers were discovered on the morning of December 30, 2015, in their residence," the mission’s statement said.

Subsequently, there is an ongoing investigation both by the UN and the Haiti National Police, which are both cooperating to solve the case.

"An investigation was opened by a team of officers of the PNH [Haitian National Police] and MINUSTAH agents to determine the exact circumstances of their deaths that must have occurred on the night of December 29-30, 2015," MINUSTAH said.

Sandra Honore, special representative of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Haiti expressed her condolences to the officers’ families and friends .

Haiti has managed to slowly recover from the January 2010 earthquake that killed more than 200,000 citizens and 102 UN employees.
