After the Sony hack revealed unequal pay for women in Hollywood, Charlize Theron took action. She said that she wanted to be paid the same as her male co-star Chris Hemsworth in their upcoming movie, “The Huntsman.”

After fighting for equal pay, she managed to get a $10 million pay rise to take her same level as her male co-star for the Snow White prequel.

Theron said “I have to give them credit, because once I asked, they said yes,” she said. “They did not fight it. And maybe that’s the message: that we just need to put our foot down.”

The leaked Sony e-mails showed that American Hustle’s female stars Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence were on a 7 percent deal, while male co-stars Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper were on 9 percent each.

She said “When I thought about the temperature out there – with finding out what Jennifer and Amy were being paid on a set with guy actors who are their counterparts … They’re just as good as any of the guys on there. Yeah, that pissed me off!”

In the same interview Theron also spoke about feminism.

She said “This is a good time for us to bring this to a place of fairness, and girls need to know that being a feminist is a good thing,” she said. “It doesn’t mean that you hate men. It means equal rights. If you’re doing the same job, you should be compensated and treated in the same way.”

Charlize Theron has just finished for working on the “The Huntsman” and will appear in next in Gillian Flynn adaptation “Dark Places.”
