Edouard Manet’s, 1881 oil painting “Le Bar aux Folies-Bergere” is to be sold at auction at Sotheby later this month.
‘Le Bar aux Folies-Bergere” is considered one of the defining images of French impressionism.
The painting features a barmaid at the famous Parisian cabaret.
Sotheby’s senior international specialist in impressionist and modern art, Philip Hook, said “This is one of Manet’s most famous subjects, and an absolute classic impressionist image of Parisian nightlife.”
Sotheby’s auction house says the painting will be up for sale on June 24 sale in London, with an estimated price of $23 million to $30.7 million.
Last November Manet's Spring - a portrait of a Parisian actress - set a new auction record for his work, selling for $65 million in New York.
