A statement on Behai city’s police microblog says police detained a 30-year-old knife-wielding man in China’s Guangxi region at a market.

The suspect is said to have stabbed four people, one severely on Thursday.

Officials did not provide additional information regarding the issue, while the statement says investigations of the attack still continue.

A series of similar attacks have raised public concern in China, including an attack at a train station in March 2014 in the southwestern city of Kunming, killing 31.

Authorities claimed the attack was carried out by secessionist militants from the western region of Xinjiang.

Though such violent attacks are rather rare in China when compared with other countries, there have recently been a number of knife attacks, most on young school children.
