North Korea said on Saturday that it will attack the United States on its soils if the annual military exercise with South Korea and other allies are not cancelled.

South Korea, a strong ally of the US, performs annual military exercise called Ulchi Freedom Guardian with the US and other allies for what they refer to as enhancing readiness to protect the region and maintain stability over the Korean peninsula.

As annual as the drills are, so are the threats North Korea makes, however this is the first time North Korea has threatened to attack on US soil.

"The further Ulchi Freedom Guardian joint military exercises are intensified, the strongest military counteraction [the Democratic People's Republic of Korea] will take to cope with them," said North’s National Defence Commission (NDC) spokesperson.

Stating that North Korea is no longer what it used to be in the past when it had to counter the US nukes with rifles, the spokesperson said the country is the invincible power equipped with both the latest offensive and defensive means unknown to the world.

N Korea even went further on threats via a state television newswoman during a report.

"If [the] United States wants their mainland to be safe, then the Ulchi Freedom Guardian should stop immediately," " said the newswoman for the state television station, KCNA.

The Ulchi Freedom Guardian joint military exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday with the participation of South Korean and US, as well as the forces from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The exercises are scheduled to last 12 days.
