Malaysian officials have begun exhuming corpses from the mass graves found enroute of migrants travelling to southeast Asia. The mass graves on site in Perlis are considered to be migrants’ leaving conflict areas like Myanmar.

Twelve police officials have been detained on charges of corruption and linkage to the mass graves in Southern Thailand and Northern Malaysia, reported the Malaysia’s Home Minister Wan Junaidi.

The government has also opened an inquisition on local officials in connection with the forestry areas. There is suspicion that they assisted the cover up of over a hundred mass graves found in Perlis.

The forests have officially been identified as a waiting location for the migrants fleeing their home countries mainly from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
