A rehearsal for a ceremony in China commemorating the end of World War II on September 3 took place in Beijing on August 23 with the participation of its soldiers as well as those of Russia and several other countries.

On August 23, fighter jets flew low over Beijing while military vehicles rumbled through the city center which is widely regarded as a display of the growing capabilities of the People's Liberation Army at a time when Beijing is asserting territorial claims in the South and the East China Sea.

Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Cuba, and Mexico will also take place in the Sept. 3 parade, Chinese state media reported.
