The United States is hunting Russian citizens around the world, said the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday, warning them of travelling abroad for the risks posed by the US.
Russian Foreign Ministry also accused Washington of kidnapping Russians, in a statement on Friday, saying a citizen Vladimir Drinkman experienced such case in the Netherlands when he was extradited to the US early this year.
"By believing that it is allowed to do all it wants, Washington goes as far as kidnapping our citizens," said the ministry.
The US had accused Drinkman of installing sniffers to comb through computer networks of financial companies, payment processors and retailers around the world, and asked the Netherlands to turn him in when he was arrested.
"The threat of detention or arrest on the warrant of law enforcement bodies and special services of the USA in third countries still persists. It is quite real," said the Russian ministry in its statement.
"The American authorities continue the unacceptable practice of ‘hunting’ for Russians all over the world, ignoring the norms of international laws and twisting other states' arms."
Russia’s relations with the US and the European Union are at their worst since the end of the Cold War era.
Russia’s annexation of Crimea and aggression in eastern Ukraine caused the United States and the European Union to impose a series of sanctions on Russia.
