Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the country is in a state of mourning following the attack.

Daesh on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the truck attack on a Berlin Christmas market that killed 12 people and left nearly 50 injured.

The terrorist organisation made the claim a day after the attack as German police released the man detained following the incident.

German police are still hunting for the driver of the truck, which slammed into the downtown Christmas market Monday night.
