Germany cleared the water on the Holocaust issue once again by taking full responsibility, after controversial comments by the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming that Adolf Hitler was advised to kill Jews by Palestinian leader Haj Amin al Husseini.
"All Germans know the history of the murderous race mania of the Nazis that led to the break of civilization and resulted in the Holocaust," Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert said.
"This is taught in German schools for a good reason, it must never be forgotten. And I see no reason to change our view of history in any way. We know that responsibility for this crime against humanity is German and very much our own," the spokesperson added.
The Israeli Prime Minister has caused controversy over his statement about the Palestinian leader during his speech at the 37th World Zionist Congress on Tuesday. The PM blamed Haj Amin al Husseini for the extermination of the Jews during the Holocaust.
"Hitler didn't want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jews," Netanyahu said. When Hitler asked al Husseini what to do, Netanyahu said al Husseini replied: "Burn them."
