Italian Prime Minister Renzi resigns

Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi arrives at the Quirinale Presidential Palace on December 7, 2016 in Rome, to present his official resignation to Italy's President Sergio Mattarella.

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has resigned according to the president's office.

Renzi pledged to leave office if he lost Sunday's referendum on constitutional reforms. Nearly 60 percent of voters went against the incumbent prime minister.
