Public opinion in Italy is divided regarding refugees, as one side believes they are escaping from war-torn and poor countries and the other side believes they have almost no chance of finding a job in the country.
However, main driving force of public opinion appears to be fear of terror attack.
Francesco Vozza, a local politician who is leading an effort to curb the refugee influx, said he believes there could be dangerous consequences.
I think that DAESH is exploiting this migrant crisis to send their fighters into Europe," Vozza said.
"We cannot know this for sure, because we cannot control the borders."
