In Serbia, police arrested 79 people, including a former minister on charges of corruption, Minister of Internal Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic said at a special press conference.

The minister said the damage caused from the alleged acts of corruption accumulated to over 1000 million euros.

Stefanovic added, the suspects included "a former minister, several top former officials, serving and former mayors and the heads of major firms", identifying the ex Commer Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic only by the initials S.M.

According to Stefanovic the suspects face corruption charges for being involved in a number of indecent acts, ranging from money laundering and abuse of position to forging of documents and bribery. He said the five suspects remain at large and another 39 are under investigation.
