Spanish police says they have arrested 89 Chinese and Pakistani citizens in connection to a human trafficking network.
Interior ministry in an official statement on Saturday said the network smuggles Chinese people through Spain and then into the United States, Britain, Ireland and Canada.
They charge each person an average of 20,000 euros, half of it paid at the country of origin and the other half at the destination country.
Spanish Interior Ministry said the human smuggling network withheld the travel documents of their clients and threatened them to make full payments.
The smugglers work in cooperation with other human trafficking gangs, the ministry stated.
The network is also suspected to be using Turkey-Greece border route in order to smuggle people into EU.
The investigation was initiated following several arrests at Spanish airports of people carrying fake passports.
