Vladimir Putin played a game of hockey with the country’s top officials, sportsmen and businessmen in a Night Hockey League (NHL) at Sochi’s Olympic sports arena on Saturday night.
Putin’s team won 18-6, where the Russian president scored eight goals with assists from NHL stars Pavel Bure and Valeri Kamensky. Russia’s defense minister Sergey Shoigu also scored 3 goals.
Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich played too, while Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was a spectator.
Putin has always portrayed his athletic skills and has recently started to play hockey to promote the sport in the country.
Since 2011, the NHL has united the country’s amateur hockey clubs which was created under the leadership of Putin.
In order to commemorate the 70th anniversary victory over the Nazis, Putin and all the other competitors played under number 70 for the match.
