Czech health officials have diagnosed the country's first two cases of the mosquito-borne Zika virus

The Czech Republic health officials announced Thursday that the Czech Republic has registered the first cases of the Zika virus.

The World Health Organisation warned over Zika outbreak that it would likely worsen before any relief comes to the countries besieged by the virus. Zika has been linked to thousands of birth defects in Brazil, citing a "strongly suspected" relationship between Zika infection in pregnancy and microcephaly in newborns.

It was not clear where the people in the Czech Republic contracted the virus or whether they had traveled to countries such as Brazil, where Zika has hit hardest.
