Sixty five year old mother Annegret Raunigk gave birth via caesarean section at a Berlin hospital on Tuesday after having undergone an artificial insemination procedure.

Raunigk already has 13 children , ranging in age from nine to 44. She is also a grandmother to seven children.

According to official records Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara in Spain is the oldest woman to give birth at the age of 66. She gave birth to twins.

Raunigk is now the world's oldest woman to have quadruplets.

Her pregnancy was widely criticised by medical professionals because of her age.

Raunigk had to go abroad to have fertilised eggs implanted. The procedure is illegal in Germany.
