People holding banners and flags welcome President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as he arrives at the St. Regis Hotel with First Lady Emine Erdoğan for the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, USA on March 29, 2016.

The hashtag “WeLoveErdogan” came in first place of Twitter’s worldwide trend-topic list on Tuesday night, at the beginning of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s five-day visit.

Twitter users who support Erdogan shared their sympathies, thoughts, and wishes in their messages.

Deputy PM Yalcin Akdogan, FM Mevlut Cavusoglu, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag, and several governing Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies also tweeted the hashtag with photos and videos to show their support for Erdogan.

Over 171,000 tweets were written up until 11 PM local time (2100GMT).

Followers wrote messages such as “My country, my leader,” “Turkey always stands behind its leader,” and “A leader that works for his nation day and night.”

Erdogan began his US visit, in which he intends on carrying out many tasks, on Tuesday in order to participate in the Nuclear Security Summit and hold several meetings with top leaders from the business world.
