Before the Syrian civil war erupted in 2011, the historic city of Aleppo was the most populous in the country – but no longer.

For the residents of the city of Aleppo, 2016 will be remembered as a year of great humanitarian tragedy. After more than five years of bloodshed, the conflict in Syria is still taking lives.

With every week that goes by, paths towards a solution become fewer and the chances of post-conflict stability more uncertain in the country.
