Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) announced on Thursday its senior official has been killed in a United States air strike in Yemen, the US confirming the dead but would not say whether his death was the result of a drone strike.

The senior AQAP commander, Nasser bin Ali al Ansi, appeared in several videos released by the group, but became well known by his lengthy statement after the Charlie Hebdo shooting in January which left 12 deaths, claiming the group was responsible for the attack.
