Five Czechs and their Lebanese driver were reported missing in Lebanon, Czech officials announced on Saturday.

It was reported earlier by Lebanese media and the security forces on Saturday that five Czechs were missing when their empty vehicle was found in the Kefraya region in the eastern Bekaa Valley on Friday.

The father of the Lebanese taxi driver reported on Saturday that his son was missing.

Czech officials have not released the names of the missing people in order not to jeopardise the investigation, spokeswoman Michaela Lagronova told reporters.

"At this moment we can confirm we are missing five Czech citizens together with one Lebanese citizen," Lagronova said.

"A huge security operation is going on now in Lebanon. We are of course in close contact with Lebanese security forces and also with the government."

Security forces launched an urgent investigation regarding the issue.
