Forces loyal to Libyan government retake Sirte from Daesh

Sirte was the last significant area under control of Daesh in Libya.

Forces loyal to Libya's government say they've retaken the coastal city of Sirte from Daesh, after six months of intense fighting.

The pro-government forces launched an offensive to retake Sirte six months ago. The capture of Sirte is a major boost for the UN-backed unity government which was formed in Tripoli last year. It was the last significant area under control of the terror group.
