Marshall Islands-flagged ship facing difficulties was passing through the Iranian waters to reach the United Arab Emirates, with conflicting reports about its “seizing” by Iranian forces.

Conflicting reports over the Marshall Islands-flagged ship in the Iranian territorial waters emerge, as Colonel Steve Warren, Pentagon spokesperson confirms the ship has no Americans on board, and there is no conflict inside the ship although Iranian forces are aboard.

Reports in Saudi Arabian state TV and al Arabia, previously claimed that Iranian navy forces have “seized and attacked” a US cargo ship.

Allegations have been shot down by senior US navy officials and the Pentagon, saying the ship has ignored an Iranian order to move further into Hormuz strait, the ship complied later after several warning shots were fired.

The ship is a Maersk Tigris, managed by Singapore-based Rickmers Shipmanagement, which is part of Hamburg-based Rickmers Group.

A Rickmers Group spokeswoman declined to comment when contacted by Reuters about the vessel.

“US assets are sent to monitor the situation,” said Colonel Steven Warren, in references to the American navy destroyer, aircraft carrier and overhead aircraft sent to the Iranian gulf to ensure the cargo ship reaches its destination safely.
