ISIS released a propaganda video on Wednesday depicting the beheading of a militiaman fighting for the “Libyan National Army” (LNA) militia loyal Libya’s rival House of Representatives (HoR) assembly.
The video purports to show the execution of Abdulnabi Al Shargawi, a Libyan man who joined the LNA after formerly working as a postal worker in the city of Tobruk, where the HoR holds office, and was captured by ISIS fighters in Ras Hillal.
According to the video, Al Shargawi was apparently killed in front of a public crowd at the Atiq Mosque in the ISIS-held city of Derna.
Libya is divided between two feuding parliamentary bodies, with Western Libya being under the control of the Tripoli-based General National Council (GNC) administration and the easternmost area near the Egyptian border falling under the command of the rival House of Representatives (HoR) body, which was founded last August.
ISIS forces have been able to establish a presence in eastern and central Libya due to the lack of order in the region, setting themselves up in the city of Sirte as well as Derna.
