The Palestinian Health Ministry and Israeli Army reported on Sunday the shooting of a Palestinian teenager by Israeli forces near the West Bank city of Nablus after he allegedly tried to stab Israeli soldiers with a knife.

The 16-year-old slain teenager, Diab Abu al-Rub, was from the northern West Bank village of Qabatiya, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The Israeli Army reported in a statement that its troop had shot dead the teenager after he attempted to stab soldiers positioned at the Bitot Junction south of Nablus in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Israeli forces recently extended a blockade in Qabatiya after three teenagers from the village killed an Israeli border guard earlier this month in Jerusalem.

Since Oct. 1 of last year, at least 180 Palestinians have been killed, mostly after allegedly attempting attacks on Israelis or during clashes with Israeli forces, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

At least 30 Israelis and foreigners have also been killed over the same period of time in the violence.
