The Lebanese army said in a statement that a surveillance drone plane "belonging to the Israeli enemy" had crashed at 8:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) on the the country’s coast.
Local residents said the drone had crashed in the sea off the port of the northern coastal city of Tripoli on Saturday. Locals also claim the Israeli Defense forces destroyed their own drone.
A Lebanese security source told Reuters that the cause of the blast “is still not 100 percent clear but most probably it was an Israeli air strike to destroy their drone.”
An Israeli Air Force drone had crashed in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley last month, according to Lebanese media reports. An Israeli aircraft then fired at it destroyed the unmanned drone.
