Israeli authorities opened an investigation into a police officer who fatally shot a 16-year-old Palestinian girl in Jerusalem last month.
The Israeli Justice Ministry said on Sunday they were looking into whether the Israeli officer used excessive force while stopping an alleged stabbing attack by two teenage Palestinian girls.
The 16-year-old girl, along with a 14-year-old girl, allegedly stabbed and lightly wounded a 70 year-old man with scissors on November 23, before they were shot at by the officer in question, ultimately killing the 16 year old.
The court is investigating claims that the Israeli officer fatally shot the teenage girl deliberately even after she had already been fully restrained. The officer defended himself during questioning, and said he believed the girl still posed a threat.
The entire incident was caught on security camera and footage of the incident was released to the media. It occurred hours before the November visit of US Secretary of State John Kerry to Jerusalem to help tone down the violence in the country.
Two other 16 year olds were also fatally shot by Israeli security forces after the incident in Jerusalem.
Israeli police shot dead a 16 year old Palestinian teenager, claiming he wielded a knife and attempted a stabbing attack at a busy intersection of the illegal Israeli settlement of Gush Etzion in the West Bank on December 1.
Another 16 year old Palestinian girl, Lama al Bakri, was shot by Israeli forces on Sunday, December 13 after allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli near southern West Bank town of Kiryat Arba.
Since the latest wave of violence - the worst since the 2014 Gaza war - began early on October, at least 112 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis in the occupied West Bank and Gaza while 19 Israelis have been killed.
Palestinians say the recent violence is the result of frustration from nearly half-a-century of occupation and they accuse Israel of using excessive force to suppress the unrest, while Israel says it has been caused by a Palestinian campaign of lies and provocation surrounding the Muslim holy site of Al Aqsa Mosque.
