Michelle Obama visits US troops in Qatar, continues ME tour

First Lady Michelle Obama visits largest US Air Force base outside US on her first solo trip to Middle East

The United States First Lady Michelle Obama together with Conan O’Brien arrived at Hamad International Airport in Qatar just before 7 pm on Tuesday to begin her first solo visit on the first day of a Middle East tour.

Mrs Obama was welcomed by chief of convention Qatar Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro and US Ambassador to Qatar Dana Shell Smith on a red carpet.

On her first night she visited the Al Udeid Base, the largest US Air Force base outside the United States. It serves close to 10 thousand personnel who are employed in the Al Udeid Air Base against the DAESH in Syria and Iraq.

‘’This isn't an easy post; you guys are doing the tough work," she told the assembled servicemen and women.

Obama was joined by late-night talk show anchor person Conan O' Brien as a component of the assurance boosting visit to troops.

The First Lady's seven day tour to Qatar and Jordan is likewise a portion of her 'Let Girls Learn' activity for the 62 million young ladies overall who are not in school and O'Brien was following along on the first leg.

Obama made keynote speech at Qatar Foundation‘s World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) on Wednesday in Doha, as part of her well publicised efforts to promote girls' education globally.  

"If we truly want to empower girls to learn then we need to ensure that their bodies are a source of pride, not pain or shame," said her keynote speech in Doha.

Also First Lady Obama met Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and State of Qatar’s First Lady Sheikha Moza. They both spoke about how to help children and adolescent girls in communities across the globe to make that critical transition from primary to secondary education.

After Qatar, Obama will travel to Jordan, where she will visit Amman and Petra.
