Kenyan Strathmore University said on Monday that a drill to test readiness for terrorism resulted in a stampede that killed one person and injured 20 others.
The institute said that one staff member was killed as the university was testing the response of university students and staff to a terror attack.
Loud sounds of explosions and some people pretending to be terrorists caused chaos and panic in the university.
Everyone attempted to flee heading towards the exit fearing a real terror attack, since Kenya has been targeted by several attacks from al Shabab after sending troops to Somalia to fight the group in 2011.
On April 2, four gunmen from Somalia al Shabab group attacked a university killing 17 people.
Kenyan troops are in a mission alongside other African countries in the African Union which is fighting al Shabab.
