A 16 year old Palestinian girl, Lama al-Bakri, was shot by Israeli forces on Sunday after allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli near southern occupied West Bank of Kiryat Arba.

"A Palestinian armed with a knife attempted to stab a pedestrian in Hebron," the Israeli military claimed in a statement.

"Forces on site responded to the imminent danger and fired towards the perpetrator, who has been evacuated to a hospital in Jerusalem for medical treatment", it added.

A spokeswoman for the Hadassah hospital said, the Palestinian teenager was taken by paramedics to Hadassah Hospital, but she had no information about the girl’s condition.

The Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba is located in the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron. Tension in this region has been relatively high between Israeli settlers and Palestinian residents.

Since the latest wave of violence - the worst one since the 2014 Gaza war -  began early on October, at least 112 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis in the occupied West Bank and Gaza while 11 Israelis have been killed.
