Israeli forces seen firing tear gas canisters to prevent Palestinians from approaching a checkpoint in north of occupied West Bank

A Palestinian woman was shot dead by Israeli forces on Monday after she allegedly attempted to stab a security guard at a checkpoint in the Qalqilya city of the occupied West Bank.

According to reports, the woman approached a security guard at the checkpoint, wielding a knife. Israeli forces opened fire towards the woman soon after.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that the woman, identified by Palestinian police as Rasha Uweisseh, 23, had been killed.

Since October 1, at least 75 Palestinians, of whom were unarmed protesters, bystanders and accused attackers, have been killed by Israeli forces using live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets, tear gas and stun grenades. 

While, 11 Israelis have been killed by Palestinians in stabbing or shooting incidents in the same period. 

The incidents and clashes gained steam after the raid on the Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli security forces which is one of the most important sites in Islam.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with the United States President Barack Obama in Washington on Monday. 

The main focus of the meeting will be bilateral relations, Iran nuclear deal and the recent episode of violence in the region.
