A school and a residential building were blown up today in the Sheikh Zuwaid area in Sinai.
The Egyptian government announced the attack was in response to security forces clearing the area of mines and explosive devices.
There were no reported loss of lives or injuries.
Witnesses say four-wheel drive cars had been booby-trapped outside “Alawadh” school and a residential building and were detonated remotely, damaging a number of adjacent houses, according to Al Masry Al Youm newspaper.
Extensive security campaigns have been waged by the military forces in Sinai to clear the area of land mines planted by members of the armed groups the Egyptian government is battling in Sinai.
