Seven Somalian Al Shabab militants were killed just before they advanced onto a Kenyan military envoy.
"It was supposed to be a surprise attack, but the soldiers acted swiftly killing seven of the militants," Kenyan Defence Forces spokesman colonel David Obonyo told Anadolu Agency.
Kenyan Defence Forces had recovered AK-47 branded rifles from the militant group.
"Two of our men were injured but are now in a stable condition,” Obonyo added.
The planned attack comes days after Al Shabab raided and hoisted a flag in the North Kenyan village of Garissa.
The Al Shabab militants have pledged to continue attacks in Kenya if they don’t take their military out of Somalia.
The last couple of months saw close to 150 students killed by militant groups linked to Al Qaeda in Kenya’s Garissa University College.
