Five policemen and fourteen others were killed and at least 25 others were wounded when a car bomb and its driver detonated in a marketplace in the town of Balad Ruz, located just 70 kilometers northeast of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

The blast occurred in the late hours of Saturday night, however no group took immediate responsibility for the attack, though it bore the hallmarks of ISIS.

ISIS has conducted a nearly-daily regular spree of suicide bombing attacks across Iraq and primarily areas near the capital city of Baghdad, ever since the group entered Iraq by crossing the Syrian border last June.

ISIS currently holds large swaths of Iraq’s territory including the country’s second largest city Mosul and Ramadi, the capital of Iraq’s western-most and largest province of Anbar.
