The Egyptian government has announced that a blast in the city of Giza killed three people, including a senior judge, and injured 11 others on Sunday.

According to an Interior Ministry statement the explosion, which took place in Giza’s Faisal neighborhood, was most likely the result of a gas leak.

The ministry also said senior judge and vice president of the Egyptian State Lawsuit Authority, Rashwan Hussein Rashwan, was passing "coincidentally" nearby when the deadly blast occurred.

Egyptian authorities said an investigation to verify the main cause of the blast is under way.
