One of the 10 US sailors who had been detained by Iran after entering Iranian territorial waters in Gulf on Tuesday apologised for his patrol boat entering the waters, footage on Iranian state-TV showed on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Iran announced the arrests of 10 United States sailors after their patrol boats drifted into Iranian waters after what the US said was a 'mechanical problem’ of the boats.
The sailor had been taken to an Iranian base on Farsi Island in the Persian Gulf and held there for one day.
"It was a mistake, that was our fault, and we apologise for our mistake," said the US sailor who was seen with the other sailors.
"My navigation system showed I was in Iranian waters but I made a mistake and entered," he said.
The detained US sailors were released early on Wednesday.
