Royal Birkdale, on the northwest coast of England, is considered by many to be one of Britain's best golf courses and one of The Open's most symbolic homes.

The great Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and Peter Thomson are some of the past winners at this venue, and now a 156-strong field will try to add their names to that list.
