Turkey keeps its hopes for third place in Group A, after it defeats Netherlands, 3-0 in qualifier game for Euro 2016

Turkish national football team players celebrates the 3-0 victory

Turkey defeated the Netherlands 3-0 in a Euro 2016 Group A qualifier in the central Turkish province of Konya on Sunday.        

Turkish midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup scored the first goal in the the eighth minute, with fellow midfielder Arda Turan doubling the host's lead in the 26th.

A goal from Burak Yilmaz sealed the deal four minutes from the end of regular time. 

Turkey is now in third place in Group A behind Iceland and the Czech Republic.

The best third-placed side qualifies directly for the final tournament. The eight remaining third-placed teams will contest during play-offs to determine the last four qualifying spots in the draw for Euro 2016, which will take place in France next summer. 

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was among the crowd watching the match in the Torku Arena.
