Galatasaray's Umut Bulut and Selcuk Inan are seen during the UEFA Europa League, Round of 32 second leg match between SK Galatasaray and SS Lazio at Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy on February 25, 2016.

European football's governing body UEFA on Wednesday has banned Turkey's Galatasaray from European competition for one year over its failure in following financial fair play regulations, an official with the Istanbul-based club said.

“We have been banned from participating in the UEFA competitions for a year,” Galatasaray Vice President Esref Alacayir told.

The UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) adjudicatory chamber made the ruling over the Turkish club.

In January 2016, the chamber decided to refer Galatasaray “for necessary actions to be taken as the club has failed to comply with the break-even requirement during the monitoring period assessed in the 2015/16 season”.
