Police officers and municipal policemen on their way to provide security to an anti-terror rally were injured on Sunday after the bus carrying them exploded from a blast at its LPG fuel depot in the Aksaray district of Istanbul.

At least 20 police officers and 6 municipal policemen were wounded in the blast on Aksaray's Namık Kemal Street.

Rushed to the Samatya State Hospital, officers with minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, three other officers announced they would undergo an operation.

The bus was carrying the security officers to the Yenikapi meeting area where an anti-terror rally named "Millions of Breaths as One Voice against Terror” is scheduled to be held on Sunday evening.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Parliament Speaker Ismet Yilmaz are expected to participate in the rally which was organised by the Civilian Solidarity Platform (SDP).
