A Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputy candidate Ramazan Demir was stabbed by an attacker on late Saturday and was taken to a hospital in Adana.
Demir is a deputy candidate from the southern province of Adana and was campaigning in the Aladag district during the attack.
Adana Governor Mustafa Buyuk told the press that Demir was stabbed three times but does not have a life-threatening condition.
Buyuk said witnesses informed that the vehicle carrying Demir was cut off by another vehicle that had flags of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) over it, adding that two suspects have been detained after the incident and an investigation is underway.
Police said that the two suspects detained were intoxicated.
Expressing the situation is deeply upsetting and that additional measures have been taken, Buyuk condemned the attack and urged citizens to remain calm.
