The mayor of Gursu district in Bursa, Cuneyt Yildiz, who is a member of governing Justice and Development Party (AK Party), on Tuesday died in the hospital where he had been treated since May 20.
Yildiz and his guard were heavily wounded after reportedly being shot by a municipal security officer, identified as F.B., in his office on May 20. The municipal security officer was arrested late on May 24.

Deputy candidate of main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Elif Dogan Turkmen, was wounded in an armed attack on May 26 in a restaurant in the southern Turkish province of Adana.
Turkish media has reported claims of fraud and debt between Turkmen and her client. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
On May 23, the AK Party candidate Ramazan Demir was stabbed three times with a knife by two attackers and was taken to a hospital in Adana. One suspect, Faruk S., was arrested while other suspect, Muhammed F., was released by the court.
Both Ramazan Demir and Elif Dogan Turkmen were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.
