An independent deputy candidate from Turkey’s southeastern province of Sanliurfa for June 7 general election vanished on Saturday for an unknown reason.

The candidate Ibrahim Halil Gogus attended a meeting as part of his election campaign in the evening and disappeared after the meeting.

His family notified the gendarmerie forces after they couldn’t receive any news about Gogus from his colleagues, relatives and friends.

Gendarmerie units searched the district and detained his assistant who is allegedly the last person that saw Gogus.

The search for Gogus still continues.

Sanliurfa residents will elect 12 deputies in the general election in which seven independent candidates would compete  besides the political parties.
