Turkey decides on its political leadership after months of deadlock

Updated Nov 1, 2015

Turkish voters are heading to the ballot box today to determine the country’s fate in an early election triggered after political parties failed to form a coalition government following a previous general election on June 7.

The Nov. 1 early election is crucial for Turkey since the country is overshadowed by the threat of terrorism. Turkish society is suffering from the turmoil on the country’s southeastern border caused by the PKK, YPG, Daesh and the Syrian regime, which has had negative knock-on effects within the country. The public hopes for the establishment of a government to help stabilise the situation.
